Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has confirmed that she has relocated to New York City as part of her push to expand her global footprint.
The 23-year-old singer said she has lived in the city for less than two months but already feels settled, crediting its familiar pace, vibrant energy and strong African presence for easing her transition.
In a recent video interview, Ayra Starr explained that New York’s atmosphere mirrors that of Lagos, her hometown, which made the move feel natural.
According to her, the city’s energy, speed and cultural rhythm closely resemble Lagos, while the large Nigerian and African diaspora community provides a sense of belonging.
“New York reminds me so much of Lagos. So it feels like home. There are a lot of Nigerians here. There’s a huge African diaspora here, so it feels like home,” she said.
Her move comes as she continues to gain global recognition, earning Grammy and AFRIMA nominations alongside other Afrobeats heavyweights.
