Tragedy struck Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) on Monday morning when newly appointed coach Akin Olowokere collapsed and died during a routine training session.

Olowokere, a former player for Sunshine Stars in Akure who later transitioned into a coaching role, had just joined Shooting Stars as part of the club’s revamped technical team.

He recently served as an assistant coach with the club under head coach Edith Agoye.

An eyewitness told PUNCH that he “slumped on the pitch during the team’s Monday morning training session” and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

His appointment followed the departure of the club’s previous coaching staff, led by Gbenga Ogunbote, and was celebrated by fans and management alike.

Known for his dedication, humility, and calm presence, Olowokere brought valuable experience to the new technical lineup in what was expected to be a season of rebuilding.

As of now, Shooting Stars SC has not released an official statement regarding the cause of death. The football community in Ibadan and beyond mourns the loss of a respected figure whose life was dedicated to the sport.
