Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has assumed duty as the ninth substantive Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University.
Recall she was appointed last Thursday, after a number of failed and controversial selection processes.
The Professor of Physiology succeeds Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, SAN, who left in January 2021, becoming the second female to occupy the coveted office since the establishment of the state-owned tertiary institution.
Olatunji-Bello was, on Monday, received with wild jubilation by students and members of staff of the varsity at its main campus in Ojo, Lagos.
Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oyedamola Oke, welcomed her at the university’s Senate Building in the presence of friends and well-wishers.
In her first remarks as VC, Olatunji-Bello introduced a new slogan for the varsity, “We are LASU, we are great”.
Meanwhile, the LASU’s Public Relations Unit, in a statement, described the new VC’s entry as “gallantry”.
The statement reads, “After months of heightened expectations by stakeholders, the Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to the University, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday, appointed former Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni 9th Substantive Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University to wide applause from all and sundry.
“This morning, the Prof. Of Physiology makes a gallant entry into the scenic main campus of the university, no longer as Director, LASUDA, but as the Vice Chancellor of the 37-year-old institution.”
