BACKGROUND
The Ready Set Work Programme is an employability and entrepreneurship skills acquisition programme organized by the Lagos State Government through the Office of the Special Adviser on Education, in partnership with a number of leading Private Organizations. The programme is designed to prepare final year students of Tertiary Institutions in Lagos State for life after school. It seeks to expose them to practical training about getting and keeping jobs, as well as building and successfully running their own businesses.
The first edition of the programme in 2016 took place on the Campus of Lagos State University, Ojo, with about 700 students participating from three institutions – Lagos State University, Lagos State polytechnic and Lagos State College of Health Technology.
At the end of the programme, over 100 Students got internship placements with leading organizations who partnered the Lagos State Government on the Programme. They include but limited to PWC, Access Bank, GTB, FCMB, Systems Specs and Total Oil.
Furthermore, three selected business ideas got seed funding worth millions of Naira from both the Lagos State Government and some leading private firms. The winning businesses were selected through a pitch competition involving the participants.
Today, the testimonies from successful Alumni of the programme, who either got internship placements or seed capitals for their businesses, have been mind-blowing. While more than ten[10] of those who enjoyed internship placements have now been retained by their respective organizations, those who got seed funding are now doing relatively well as budding entrepreneurs.
With the commencement of the 2017 Edition, students are once again presented with opportunities to put their futures on a sure footing by participating and standing out in the programme.
