Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi gave Nigerian football fans a moment to remember at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, recreating Nwankwo Kanu’s iconic goal celebration after scoring his first ever international goal for Nigeria in the thrilling 3–2 victory over Tunisia.
Ndidi’s goal, a powerful header from an Ademola Lookman corner kick extended Nigeria’s lead at a crucial moment in the match, helping the Super Eagles secure all three points and confirm their place in the AFCON Round of 16.
But it was the midfielder’s celebration that captured headlines and delighted fans. After finding the net, Ndidi paused and performed the familiar gesture made famous by Nwankwo Kanu during the 1996 Olympic Games, a celebration etched into the memories of Nigerian supporters as Kanu’s goal helped the team win the country’s first Olympic football gold.
