Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice-Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), visited the SAIL Innovation Lab in Ikorodu on Thursday. His visit spotlighted the significant role the lab plays in equipping Nigerian youth with cutting-edge skills for the digital economy.

The SAIL Innovation Lab, a brainchild of Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru and his wife, Mrs. Feyisola Abiru, has emerged as a powerhouse for fostering innovation and technical expertise in Lagos East Senatorial District.

Offering free training in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Product Design, the Lab has empowered hundreds of young Nigerians, many of whom have secured competitive jobs in the burgeoning tech sector.

Dr. Maida’s visit, however, underscored a deeper narrative, the increasing alignment between public-private partnerships and the federal government’s vision for a digitally inclusive Nigeria.

During his engagement with students enrolled in Data Science and Awarri AI programs, the NCC boss emphasized the importance of initiatives like the SAIL Innovation Lab in bridging Nigeria’s digital divide.

He noted that such centers help foster creativity and skill-building in the face of rapid technological advancements.

“What Senator Abiru and his team are doing here is an incredible sacrifice for the community,” Maida remarked.

“This lab is a platform for young Nigerians to harness their talents in a way that will contribute to the future of our nation’s tech ecosystem.”

The visit also highlighted Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to create a tech-driven economy through the development of innovation hubs. Dr. Maida stressed the importance of community involvement in ensuring the sustainability of such projects. “I encourage the entire community to embrace this initiative and support its continued growth,” he urged.

Previous high-profile visitors to the Lab, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, have echoed similar sentiments, recognizing the SAIL Innovation Lab as a pivotal force in Nigeria’s pursuit of technological excellence.

Through the provision of digital education and practical tech training, the Lab is shaping the future workforce, positioning Nigeria as a competitive force in the digital age.
