For the second time in three days, Nigeria’s national grid experienced a collapse, resulting in widespread power outages.

According to data from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), power generation fell to zero megawatts at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, affecting multiple generation companies across the country.

Electricity distribution companies promptly updated customers on the situation through their social media platforms. Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (Ikeja Electric) posted on X, “Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today 07 November 2024 at 11:29 Hrs affecting supply within our network. Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders.”

Similarly, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDP) informed customers about a “potential system failure,” noting, “At precisely 11:29 hours today, 7th November 2024, we experienced a simultaneous loss of supply across our network. We are currently working with our partners as we hope for a speedy restoration of the grid.”

In the northern region, Jos Electricity Distribution Company reported, “The current outage being experienced within our franchise states is a result of loss of power supply from the national grid at about 11:28 hours. We hope to restore normal power supply as soon as the grid supply is restored back to normalcy.”

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has not released a statement regarding this latest grid incident. Tuesday’s collapse, which similarly impacted power supply nationwide, was attributed by TCN to “a series of lines and generators trippings.”
