Naira Marley is fast becoming a social activist after spending 35 days behind bars

Controversial Nigerian music act, Azeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley has vowed to help some supposedly innocent people he met in jail get back their freedom.

The musician who was finally released last Friday after spending 35 days in custody for alleged crimes relating to cyber fraud has been sharing some of his experiences while at the maximum prison in Lagos.

Naira Marley in a post shared on his Instagram page disclosed that he met with a man who has been in prison for nine years without being trialed. He said the man has never been to court.

”I met one guy, he has been in jail for 9 years but never been to court, as in they haven’t even found him guilty. What if he is not even guilty?” Naira posted.

He also lamented about another young man who has been in ”jail for two years because he is in a relationship with one rich woman’s daughter and the woman locked him up for not leaving her daughter.”

Obviously, these revelations by Naira Marley wouldn’t be strange to those who have closely observed the Nigerian prison systems as over the years, there has been numerous public outcry about the high number of fellows languishing in prison without facing trial.
