Naij Reporter Damilare Okunola Wins Best Street Journalist At MBE Improver Awards

Oluwadamire Okunola, a reporter of Naij has been awarded as the Best Street Journalist at the just concluded Miss Black Europe International Scholarship Pageant and Improver Awards.

A spokesperson for MBE, Mrs Sola Opesan disclosed that though the award didn’t come with monetary benefits, the organisation found the Mr Damilare worthy of recognition for his strong will in journalism.

Damilare started his practice as a reporter/writer at the defunct AM Sports where he worked under the tutelage of Mr Tunde Oyedele, who was the Editor. He later moved on to PM News where he became fully equipped with journalism skills he could leverage on.

In his appreciation message, Damilare reflected on his journey which dated back to 2010 when he got registered at the Nigeria Institute of Journalism and all the ills he had to faced while on the line of duty.

He said, “In my years of journalism so far, I have been beaten silly, bruised, crushed, abused, struck down but not destroyed.

“I have had extremely difficult tasks, sleepless nights, terrible days after work (which I SELDOM share with any individual) but I just told myself that I was towing the right path and the recognition by the MBE Improver Awards proves exactly my beliefs.”
