NAFDAC Lifts Ban On Emzor And Other Plants

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration & Control (NAFDAC) has announced the reopening of plants earlier shut down during it’s recent clampdown on companies producing codeine.

It will be recalled that NAFDAC officials after carrying out inspections on May 7th, shut down three major plants belonging to Emzor Pharmaceutical, Peace Standard Pharmaceutical and Bioraj Pharmaceutical.

BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the raid was as a result of a special report by BBC Africa titled “Sweet Sweet Codeine” which exposed the viral abuse of the drug, mostly used for cough.

Experts had on the wake of the plants shut down disclosed that the unemployment figures will be increased by 25,000 which were said to be the total numbers of staff currently hired by the three major companies that suffered the ban.

However, new reports emerged on Saturday that the ban on the companies have been lifted and are expected to commence with its normal operations.
