My Agenda Is To Revitalise Students Movement Through NANS – Comrade Munir Momodu
With the national convention of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) tentatively fixed for June 19 to 21, 2020, one of the front runner for the Presidential seat has said his plan is to revitalise the students moment to ensure, student-related decisions are taken by students.
Sharing some of his manifesto with BlackBox Nigeria, the former General Secretary of NANS and presumably the most competent candidate to lead the Nigerian students to the promised that he will “demand for qualitative Education for all Nigerian students; ensure the digitalization of NANS for accountability and transparency and demand for unconditional release and reinstatement of all victimised, suspended and expelled Students Unions and her leaders.”
A current master’s student in the prestigious University of Lagos, Momodu acknowledged the sorry state of Nigeria’s education sector compared to the quality enjoyed in the past and promised to partner with relevant authorities to redirect the cause of the sector.
He also promised to combat drug abuse, students security of lives and property and the promotion of hygiene of female students through the compulsory donation of pads. In his manifesto document he wrote:
“The Eradication of Drugs Abuse amongst the Nigerian students, using the E.D.O formula i.e. E- for Education, while D is for Discussion and O for Organizing symposiums to educate ourselves on the danger of drugs abuse;
“Security of Lives and property of Nigerian students through a collective approach, Digital measures and raising the consciousness of Nigerian students to reduce sexual harassment of our female colleagues, rape and every form of oppression.
” and appeal and collaborate with Government, its agencies and stakeholders for the provision of free pads to all Nigerian females students.”
