My Agenda For Lagos East Senatorial District – Tokunbo Abiru
Ahead of the scheduled Lagos East Senatorial District bye-election, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Tokunbo Abiru as given insight into some of the activities that would form his agenda of the district if elected.
In the document made available to BlackBox Nigeria, the former Managing Director of Polaris Bank opined that he would be setting up a foundation using his networks from the corporate sector to cater for the vulnerable in the society.
Read his agenda below;
Knowing the prevalence of poverty and unemployment in the country, immediately I secure the people’s mandate to represent the Lagos East Senatorial District, I will set up a Foundation to address these age-long issues.
This Foundation will be funded from my personal resources and goodwill as well as network that I have built in the private sector over the last three decades.
The beneficiaries will be the vulnerable members of the society such as the youth, women, people with special needs and the aged. This will be in addition to facilitation of sustainable opportunities for our young population to address unemployment and underemployment.
As you are aware, there are a lot of programmes the federal government has set up to empower our youths across the federation. I will work with the agencies implementing these programmes so that our youths in Lagos East get their fair share.
Considering my background in the corporate sector, I understand Lagos East should be the epicentre of economic activities in Lagos, therefore, we must improve our ease of doing business. In this regard, I will facilitate bills and motions that will contribute to the ease of doing business in Nigeria and particularly Lagos, thereby opening-up opportunities for our youthful population.
I promise to represent my good people of the Lagos East and indeed our great party with commitment, integrity and passion by leveraging all the experience, competences, knowledge and relationships I have acquired in the last three decades as an economist, chartered accountant, commissioner for finance, senior banker and CEO. Welfare of my constituents will be my priority.
When elected, I will also join hands with my distinguished colleagues in the Senate, as well as all members of the House of Representatives from the state to demand a special status for Lagos State. This is indeed long overdue.
Essentially, I will be preoccupied mainly with making policies that cater to the needs of my district and its people.
I will also focus on legislations that support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 3, 4 and 8, which are Eradication of Poverty, Good Health and Wellbeing, Quality Education and Decent Work and Economic Growth. These are the areas I will work on to the benefit of the good people of Lagos East using the combination of my Private and Public Sector experiences and network.
