An Islamic cleric and a resident have been swept away by flood in Olubodun community, Ipaja in Alimosho Local Government area of Lagos State.
One of the victims identified as Alfa/daddy Mosuf was swept away into the canal by flood alongside other residents who threw the community into mourning.
The cleric and the other victim are residents of Ajayi Street. Alfa, an animal farmer who had earlier moved members of his family and animals away from his house,asked for assistance to push away the floating heaps of grass left by the flood at his door steps.
Meanwhile three residents came to his rescue to help him push the heap away and along the line two withdrew, remaining Alfa and the third resident who insisted on pushing the mountain of grasses further.
Hardly had these two residents who withdrew from the pushing left the vicinity, looked back and saw Alfa and fellow residents struggling with the ravaging flood, which eventually swept them away by the flood which claims to have risen over 1.3meters coming with a lot of garbage and bundles of grass.
However, Local divers who rescued them returned with the body of the resident after three hours, saying they saw him holding onto a tree and covered by the flood and about two kilometers away from the scene of the incident while Alfa’s body remained missing.
Neighbors have described the incident as a misfortune revealing that flooding in the area is an annual occurrence and called on Lagos State government to do the needful and prevent further loss of lives in the area.
