The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that at least 23 people were killed and 108 others injured following multiple explosions that rocked Maiduguri on Monday evening.

According to police authorities, preliminary investigations indicate that the attacks were carried out by suspected suicide bombers, who struck several locations across the city in a coordinated manner.

The blasts reportedly hit crowded and strategic locations, including the Monday Market, a post office in the city centre, the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Kaleri area, causing widespread panic and mass casualties.

Emergency responders and security operatives were immediately deployed to the affected areas, with many of the injured rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Witnesses said the attacks occurred within a short interval, amplifying the scale of destruction.

Although no group has officially claimed responsibility, security sources have linked the attack to insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), which have been active in the region for years.

The incident marks one of the deadliest attacks in Maiduguri in recent times, shattering a period of relative calm in the Borno State capital.

Authorities have since intensified security patrols across the city, while investigations are ongoing.

Borno State has remained the epicentre of Nigeria’s long-running insurgency, which has led to thousands of deaths and displaced millions of residents over the past decade.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant as security agencies work to prevent further attacks and restore normalcy in the city.
