An impending N23.3bn fraud case which involves the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, has been reopened by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

About seven years ago, Dasuki was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja. The elevation of the presiding judge, Justice Peter Affen to the Court of Appeal, forced the case to be assigned to a different judge.

However, the trial was again reassigned to Justice Yusef Halilu after the former judge earned a promotion.

On Monday, the EFCC arraigned Dasuki alongside a former Sokoto State governor Attahiru Bafarawa, his son Sagir Bafarawa, their company Dalhatu Investments Limited; and a former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda on corruption charges.

The 25-count charge borders on allegations of breach of trust and criminal misappropriation of public funds to the tune of 23.3 billion naira.

The anti-graft agency accused them of diverting money from the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2013 and 2015 to finance election campaign.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them.

The case was adjourned to June 7 to hear application filed by Dauski’s counsel and June 30 for continuation of the trial.
