A Monkey pox patient has committed suicide in Bayelsa

Reports reaching BlackBox Nigeria has it that a Monkey Pox patient has killed himself. The deceased whose identity has not been revealed reportedly commited suicide government claims that he was already recovering.

The patient who was one of the 11 people committed to isolation was said to have killed himself at the centre of the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH).

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information, Daniel Iworiso has however debunked news that the patient died of the disease saying that was contrary to the real turn of events.

“This is to inform the general public that the patient did not die of the disease but committed suicide.

We want to tell our people not to  panic; government is on top of the situation.

We should try and stay away from bush meat, monkey precisely.”

The commissioner for Health, Prof. Ebititula Etebu also disclosed that the patient was improving as at the time of his suicide.

“It is, however, important to note that the patient was recovering and had improved significantly like other patients.

All are doing well; 10 have been discharged; seven still on admission and improving.

His medical history did not suggest any mental illness or features of depression,” he said.
