Monday Odigie Resigns as Bendel Insurance Coach Following Poor Start to NPFL Season

Monday Odigie has stepped down as the technical adviser of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Bendel Insurance, marking him as the fourth coach to exit his position in the ongoing 2024/2025 season.

Odigie tendered his resignation to the club secretary, Mr. Charles Ihimekpen, on Thursday in Benin City according to sources

His decision comes amidst the team’s poor performance this season, including a recent 3-2 loss to reigning champions Rangers International of Enugu in Week 12 of the NPFL.

Sources close to the club revealed that Odigie had initially considered resigning after Match Day 10, following a 2-1 victory over Sunshine Stars in Akure.

However, the win delayed his decision.

The turning point reportedly occurred after the defeat to Rangers, leaving Bendel Insurance at the bottom of the 20-team league table with only three wins, three draws, and six losses from 12 matches.

It was also reported that Odigie traveled alone to Akure and Enugu for the last two away fixtures, a move that signaled a growing disconnect between him and the team.

Bendel Insurance’s management has yet to release an official statement on Odigie’s resignation. In the interim, Greg Igbinoba, a member of the coaching staff, led the team’s training session on Thursday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in preparation for their Match Day 13 clash against Kwara United on Saturday.

The Benin Arsenals, also known as Bendel Insurance, are struggling with a poor run of form despite Odigie’s success last season when he led the team to victory in the 2023 Federation Cup.
