Missing Mace: Controversy Trails Ikorodu LGA Election Of House Leader
Just when observers of happenings in Ikorodu thought everything was well, it has been revealed that the sitting that brought in the supposed House Leader, Hon Awobajo had no symbol of authority as the legislative mace was not present.
It will be recalled that the exercise witnessed a small drama before Awobajo was purportedly elected Leader. A similar occurrance almost played out at Ibeju-Lekki LCDA too, a development that didn’t come to an end without shooting.
While the camp of the purported Leader, Honourable Gbenga Awobajo claimed election took place and he won in a closely contested process where he garnered 4 votes as against 3 to his rival, the other party who seems loyal to the Executive arm said no election took place.
Drama As Ikorodu Central Elects Council Leader
Speaking with BlackBox Nigeria, Lekan OBAA, the media aide to the Vice Chairman of the Council, Princess Folashade Oba said the whole process is false insinuation and propaganda being spread by enemies of law and progress.
“The public should disregard the false story as it is a failed attempt to rob our democratic and legislative provisions. It is a shameful act by desperate power seekers to stoop so low thinking they could get away with illegality which lacks credibility and sane conduct,” he said.

In giving premise to his assertion, Lekan noted that it is the constitutional duty of the Clerk to oversee election of principal officers of the Council with the Mace present. A situation they said never occurred to which gives power to the chamber.
“It is barbaric and against our Legislative etiquette to observe a legislative sitting without a mace symbolizing and authorizing the legislators power to exercise their power,” he averred.
When asked when the proper election will be taking place, Lekan said members of the public will be informed but maintains that Thursday’s election remains void because it lacks constitutional backing.
