Captain Mikel Obi was the needed inspiration for the squad as their whitewashed perennial rivals Cameroon

Nigerian skipper, John Mikel Obi has made a vow to ensure that the Super Eagles qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup holding in Russia.
The Tianjin TEDA star was speaking following Nigeria’s superb victory over visitors, Cameroon on Friday. An excited Mikel  who netted Nigeria’s second goal in the cracker disclosed that he will make sure Nigeria qualifies for both the World Cup and the Nations Cup.
“If we continue to play like we did, we can beat anybody in Africa. I want to make sure we go to the World Cup and also qualify for the Nations Cup.”
He spoke further, ‘’We knew coming into the game we had a very good chance of winning, that’s exactly what we did, so now we are in a very good position of qualifying for the World Cup.”
On his leadership of the team, the former Chelsea player said, “we have a very young team, obviously I have been here for a long time and now I am the captain of the team “I feel I have responsibility every time I step on the pitch to play. This team needs experience, this team needs guidance. The players are very good players, quick players. Sometimes they need someone they listen to, someone who can direct them to make sure we have balance and know exactly what we are doing and that’s what we did Friday.”
