HRH Osagumwenro Eresoyen is the 9th and youngest Enogie (Duke) of Uhogia village in Benin City, Edo state.
The young Duke ascended the position after the demise of his father at the tender age of 21 years old.
His father, Ekiroghuagnen Idumwonyi Eresoyen reigned as the Enogie of the village from 1995 to 2017, before he died. Being the first son of his father, the village installed him as the new duke in 2017, making him one of the youngest dukes under the highly respected King, Oba Ewuare II of Benin Kingdom.
Osagumwenro is a young and stylish traditional ruler. He graduated from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state.
In an interview he granted to City People Magazine in 2021, he shared how he copes with running the affairs of his village.
He said, “There’s this saying that God cannot give you what you can’t handle. So I believe my age is not a factor. It has nothing to do with the responsibility. The responsibility has made me understand more about life, and I don’t think there’s any big deal about me being a traditional ruler at my age.
“It’s not an easy task. So far, I’m grateful to God and my ancestors because they lead me, and that’s all I can say. It’s not an easy task”, was his response when asked about his experience of being a king.
