Earlier today, BlackBox Nigeria reported that the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji has had his last breath. He died at the ripe age of 93 five years after attaining the throne of his forefathers.
With Oba Adetunji’s demise, the conversation has quickly moved to who will succeed him and many have quickly come up to a conclusion.
With the way the Obaship line is structured in the ancient city of Ibadan, the next in line is always known to all even while the monarch is alive. The succession has a line of high chiefs who move up the ladder once there is the death of the Olubadan or anyone on the line.
In this regard, the Otun Olubadan, High Chief Lekan Balogun being the most senior in hierarchy will be moving up as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland and head of the Olubadan-in-council.
A business magnate and politician, High Chief Moshood Lekan Balogun has interests in several establishments across the country and abroad.
During his younger days, he worked with Shell where he was the Head of industrial relations, recruitment and scholarships. He also had a stint with Ahmadu Bello University where he was Research Fellow.
He also consulted for several blue chip companies before venturing into politics. Lekan Balogun was a Nigerian senator in the Fourth Republic after which he also aspired to be President of Nigeria. He also contested on the platform of the PDP for the gubernatorial elections in Oyo State.
A published author, High Chief Lekan Balogun holds a doctorate degree.
