After 495 days without a haircut, viral Manchester United super-fan Frank Ilett is finally on the brink of keeping a promise that has captured the imagination of football fans online.
Frank, popularly known on social media as “The United Strand,” vowed last year to keep growing his hair until Manchester United recorded five consecutive wins, a run of form that proved impossible for much of the season.
Under manager Rúben Amorim, the Red Devils repeatedly fell short of stringing together the required victories, turning Frank’s personal challenge into a long-running symbol of the club’s struggles.
Reports show that he has met with the club interim manager, Michael Carrick and promise to shave at Carrington if United win the fifth match against WestHam.
Recall that Manchester United secured fourth straight wins against Tottenham thanks to the wonderful goal contributions from Bryan Mbuemo and Bruno Fernandez after Christian Romero secured red card for fouling Casemiro.
Now, against all odds, United stand just one win away from completing the sequence and ending Frank’s nearly 500-day wait for a trim.
Tonight’s clash against West Ham United has therefore taken on an unusual extra layer of drama. A victory would not only secure the five-match winning streak but also send Frank straight to the barber’s chair, scissors at the ready.
