Man Sets Wife on Fire Alleged Infidelity in Anambra
On Tuesday, a tragic event unfolded in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, when a middle-aged man allegedly set his wife ablaze over a family dispute.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in Eziezekwe village, where the man, whose name has been withheld, reportedly poured petrol on his wife, Chioma Nwana, and set her on fire following an argument.
According to reports, the altercation was sparked by accusations of infidelity, with the husband confronting his wife after she returned home from an outing with a suspected lover.
During the confrontation, the husband allegedly grabbed a can of petrol, poured it on his wife, and ignited her, causing severe burns.
The victim, who was rushed to a nearby hospital, gave up ghost owing to her injuries on Wednesday morning. She leaves behind six children.
Following the horrific incident, the suspect, reportedly confused, went to the Abagana Divisional Police Station to report the crime and present himself to the authorities.
He allegedly claimed that his wife had been engaging in promiscuous behavior with men in the village, which he said had led to public abuse and humiliation in their home.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident, noting that the suspect is currently in police custody. He also stated that the case has been transferred to the Homicide Unit for further investigation, following the victim’s death.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, has directed that a thorough investigation be conducted into the tragic incident.
