A middle-aged man, Agbolade Agbolahan has been remanded in prison for allegedly hacking the Facebook account of the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan, for fradulent purposes.
Agbolahan was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos over the charges preferred against him by the Police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos.
He is facing two counts bordering on hacking and obtaining by false pretences.
The police prosecutor, Slyvester Azubuike told the court that the defendant hacked the monarch’s Facebook account sometime in April 2022, and used the account to defraud a professor, Adesoji Adelaja, of the sum of N500,000.
He noted that the offences are contrary to sections 22(2)(b)(ii) and 22(3) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention Etc) Act, 2015.
Agbolahan, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The presiding judge, Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa in turn ordered the remand of the defendant, and adjourned the matter for hearing of the bail application filed by his lawyer.
