A man has killed four children in a brutal attack at a kindergarten in Kampala, shocking residents and raising fresh concerns about school safety in the country.

According to police, the suspect gained access to the school by disguising himself as a parent before carrying out the assault on Thursday.

Authorities said the attacker entered the premises of a nursery facility in the Gaba area, briefly interacted with school officials, then locked the gate and launched the attack on the children using a sharp weapon.

Police confirmed that four pupils were killed in the incident, while the suspect has since been arrested and taken into custody.

Eyewitness footage from the scene showed distraught parents and a chaotic atmosphere, with security operatives forced to fire warning shots to disperse an angry crowd attempting to lynch the suspect.

Ugandan police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke, said investigations are ongoing, noting that the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

The incident is considered rare in Kampala, a city of about three million people, where attacks targeting children are uncommon.

The tragedy has triggered outrage and grief across the country, with many calling for tighter security measures in schools to prevent similar incidents.

Authorities say further details will be provided as investigations continue.
