A businessman, Dabarju Anarju has landed in trouble after he was exposed for illegally connecting his ice block factory onto an electricity installation meant to power streetlights in the GRA area of Maiduguri, Borno State.
Anarju was accused of using the illegally tapped power to run heavy duty equipment in his ice block factory located at NUJ, New GRA, where he sold cold drinks, ice blocks and other provisions.
The private business, according to investigations, has been in operation for two years.
He was also accused of illegally extending the space of his shop into an unauthorized territory, encroaching on a public road.
A joint team of the Borno Geographic Information Service (BOGIS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) visited the area on Tuesday.
One of illegal structures allegedly erected by Dabarju was demolished, while about 20 improvised freezers used in the factory were also evacuated.
Adam B. Bababe, the Executive Secretary of BOGIS, however, revealed that the demolition followed the businessman’s refusal to comply with several notices he was served with, in compliance with the laws establishing the agency.
Anarju was arrested and currently in the custody of the police for further investigations.
