Afrobeat musician Made Kuti has criticized entertainment journalists for failing to highlight his father’s touring milestone. The Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti, recently concluded a remarkable 24-show North American tour in just one month a feat Made believes deserved far wider coverage in the media.

At 63 years old, Femi Kuti a six-time Grammy Award nominee, celebrated globally for his electrifying stagecraft and socially conscious music performed across Canada and the United States, thrilling audiences in cities such as Montreal, Detroit, New York, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Seattle. The tour, themed “Politics Don Expose Them,” began in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on July 15 and wrapped up in mid-August.

In a post on his official X account, Made expressed disappointment that the accomplishment had not been adequately reported. “Femi Kuti just finished 24 shows in 1 month on his Canada and US tour at 63 years old as a multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer, and songwriter. But we won’t hear anything about that anywhere.” He said

He went further to clarify that his criticism was directed at entertainment journalists, not the general public: “If something bad or negative happened to him on the tour, he wouldn’t need to pay anyone to mention it. Not many musicians over 60 still touring the world. Just think it is news worth sharing to inspire the youth about potential professional musical longevity.”

The tour also coincided with the promotion of Femi Kuti’s 11th studio album, Journey Through Life, released on April 25, 2025.

With this milestone and a career already decorated with six Grammy nominations Femi Kuti continues to push Afrobeat to global stages, carrying forward the legacy of his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, while inspiring a new generation of musicians.
