Often times, it has been said that some personalities are usually best known after their departure as the celebration of life after them by those who they left behind speaks a volume about their existence.
For the descendants of Alhaji Mojeed Adeola Akanbi Sanni (MAAS), there was no way better to celebrate the life of father (grandfather and great grandfather) who lived an exemplary life. The magnificent Ikorodu Town Hall played host to the memorable event on Saturday, April 15th, 2017.
For them, gathering people to come jolly alone was not good enough to mark three decades of his demise, a special tribute was also paid with the launch of a book titled, “MAAS: THE HUMAN CARPENTER”.
The book was compiled by two of his (MAAS) sons; Ibrahym Mojeed-Sanni and Sulaimon Mojeed-Sanni (the last of the pack, who was barely 11 months old when MAAS passed on).
In his welcome address, Alhaji Akeem Sanni eulogised his late father whom he termed was indeed a human carpenter, even though he was generally known as a furniture specialist. He also stated the almost perfect life he lived as a polygamist as it was evident in the bonding between his 16 children from 3 wives he left behind 30 years ago.
Also welcoming the guests, Alhaja Islamiat Ajibode (nee Mojeed-Sanni) disclosed that the heart of giving of their late father have inspired them to always have a special remembrance for him, and not the normal party everyone know.
She disclosed that over the years, the descendants (especially the first 16, as they normally referred to the first generation of MAAS) usually contribute their quota to the development of their community, Ikorodu.
She also revealed that the children have been contributing little development in a way of giving back to the community where their father lived in. Among such contribution is the donation of borehole to Owutu Rehabilitation Center, Ikorodu, Lagos during the 2015 rememberance.
Alhaja Ajibode further revealed that it has been decided by the family members to donate proceeds of the MAAS book launch to charity, Owutu Rehabilitation Centre.
The book launch lecture was delivered by Dr Bashir Aboaba Mojeed-Sanni, PhD (Cardiff) highlighted the complacency in today’s society.
The Chief Launchers of the MAAS book, two prominent Ikorodu lawmakers, Hon Babajimi Benson and Hon Sanai Agunbiade were both present in persons to celebrate with the children, especially as they both have ties with some of the youngest of them.
In a brief chat with BlackBox Nigeria, Hon Agunbiade said it was a great thing to eulogised loved ones who have departed this world and commended the children to keep the bond.
In his remarks, Hon Benson disclosed that though he did not know MAAS personally, but from what he has seen in one of his sons, Sulaimon Mojeed-Sanni, who works privately with him in Abuja, he was certain he is an individual to eulogise 30 years after.
During his chat with BBN, he advised the children to always be each other’s keepers as the bonding between them is creating a model for others to learn from.
Others soon followed in launching the book as it was shared for both well wishers and launchers at the event.
