PSG star Lionel Messi has been named as the Male Athlete of the Year.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner received this recognition from the International Sports Press Association America (AIPS) following his triumphant contribution to Argentina’s Qatar 2022 World Cup victory.
Messi had a great football season this year as he scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists in 19 games which saw PSG’s qualification for the Champions League.
The World Cup winner is however not new to this honour as this is the third time he will be receiving the AIPS award as the Male Athlete of the Year.
Meanwhile, Yulimar Rojas, a Venezuelan runner, emerged as the best 2022 Athlete in the Female category.
