Nigerian footballer Ademola Lookman has claimed the prestigious 2024 CAF African Player of the Year award, following in the footsteps of compatriots like Victor Osimhen.
The award was presented at a glamorous ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, recognizing Lookman’s extraordinary performances over the year. The Atalanta forward played a pivotal role in his club’s Serie A success and Nigeria’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
In addition to becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in a UEFA Europa League final, Lookman’s consistent brilliance in domestic and international competitions saw him edge out other top players, including Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy.
Speaking at the event, Lookman dedicated the honor to his teammates, family, and fans, saying, “This award belongs to everyone who has supported me.”
Other award highlights included Nigeria’s women’s national team being named Team of the Year and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie winning Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
