Like Ikorodu LGA, Ibeju-Lekki Election Of Leader Ends In Chaos

Just as the war of attrition continues at the National level of the ruling All Progressives Congress with the National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, SAN, struggling to maintain his foot in the party, crisis seems to be brewing across Lagos State over who becomes Leader of legislative arm of Local Governments.

While in Ikorodu Local Government, a faction declared themselves winner without sitting with official Mace,  those in Ibeju-Lekki went up in arms against each other.

According to a reliable source, the Ibeju-Lekki scenario is a betrayal of democracy which started when a secret ballot system was introduced by the Clerk of the House to decide between Yakubu Balogun the only ranking  officer and Hameed Higara.

“Out of the 7 councilors,  4 members voted for Balogun while 3 voted for Higara. But the clerk decided to reverse the result claiming it was Higara that had 4 vote,” the source told BlackBox Nigeria.

All efforts to make the Clerk and his Deputy provide the ballots used for the election  proved abortive as the two officials remained adamant in making the wrong candidate leader of the chamber.

Though Balogun today proceeded in conveying the chamber, there are insinuations that a report will be drafted to favour Higara.
