Ahead of the July 24 local government polls in the state, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has released the list of its Chairmanship and Vice Chairmanship candidates for the election.
This development followed several allegations of favouritism and manipulation against the party leadership, amid series of petitions from aggrieved aspirants and supporters over reports of violence and electoral malpractices in some councils while party registers were not available in other councils, among other discrepancies against particular aspirants.
Recall the party, on Saturday May 29, held primaries across the 20 Local Government Areas, LGAs, and 37 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs of the state to decide the Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates.
On Monday, a leaked list was widely circulated on social media, stating the names of the party candidates.
In reaction, the Lagos APC spokesman, Mr. Seye Oladejo, dismissed the result, describing it as “fake in its entirety,” saying, “There’s nothing like that yet in any local government.”
However, the party reportedly distributed Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC nomination forms to its ‘annointed’ candidates as winners in the primary elections.
