The Chairman and Members of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC ) have commenced an inspection tour of the Commission’s offices in the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas of the State.
While addressing Press men on behalf of the Chairman of the Commission during the tour, a member of the Commission, Mr. Lateef Raji, explained that the purpose of the tour to the offices of the Commission in the Local Government Councils was to assess the physical state of the offices and familiarize members with the terrain.
Mr. Raji added that the inspection and fact-finding tour would enable the Commission to generate a comprehensive report on the state of the offices of the Commission at the 57 Local Government Councils.
The Commissioner also stated that the report would enable the Commission to make necessary decisions on the offices with a view to ensuring that the offices were made conducive for the Electoral Officers of the Commission occupying the offices.
The first round of the tour took the members of the Commission, Permanent Secretary, Directors, Heads of Department and Unit of the Commission to Amuwo Odofin and Ojo Local Governments as well as Oriade, Oto Awori and Iba Local Council Development Areas where they inspected the offices of Electoral Officers and the stores for keeping ballot boxes.
It would be recalled that the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Justice Ayotunde Phillips had, a few months ago, given a hint on the plan of the Commission to embark on an inspection and familiarization tour of the offices of the Commission in the Councils after assuming office as Chairman of the Commission.
The tour would also take the Commission to the remaining Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas of the State.
