With six points above relegation zone, Leeds United are weighing the possibility of securing the services of former Barcelona coach, Ernesto Valverde.
The Peacocks are likely to part ways with current boss, Marcelo Bielsa due to the club’s poor run in the Premier League. The struggling side fought for a draw against Aston Villa during the mid-week, leaving them with just six points ahead of 18th placed Norwich City.
Their next match also poised to be a difficult one as they will face fellow relegation-threatened club, Everton on Saturday. Everton under new boss Frank Lampard are also desperate to stay in the league. The Toffees made two deadline signing which saw Manchester United’s Donny Van de Beek and Tottenham’s Dele Alli moving to the Goodison Park to bolster the squad.
Meanwhile, as Leeds sought to survive their relegation battle, they have also been linked to Ernesto Valverde as a possible replacement of Marcelo Bielsa.
The former Barcelona coach has been out of work since leaving Camp Nou in 2020. His three years stint with the Bluagranas saw him won two La Liga titles, a Copa Del Rey, and a Spanish Super Cup.
Valverde has been on a long break since his departure from Barcelona. But he is likely to return back to managerial role with suggestions that the English Premier League might be his next destination having already boasted of seven jobs in La Liga. He has been on the sidelines of Athletic Bilbao, Villarreal, Valencia, Espanyol, Olympiacos, and recently Barcelona — just to mention a few.
Possibly, a move to Leeds might set off considering Victor Orta’s knowledge of the Spanish market. The Leeds chief stand a vantage point of hiring his fellow countryman, Ernesto Valverde.
