Different stories have marred the incident that led to the burning of Diamond and Sterling Banks on Burma Road, Apapa on Wednesday by irate mob made up of majorly truck operators in the area.
It will be recalled that the news broke out on Wednesday afternoon after a suppose disagreement occurred between a slain truck driver and a Policeman attached to the Diamond Bank plc located on the ever busy Burma Road.
Findings revealed that disagreement had ensued between the driver and the officer when the latter did not allow the driver park his truck on the path of the bank. It was learnt that the whole of the road was already filled with tankers. The fracas led to the officer shooting the driver in the head which led to his death immediately.

The shooting attracted other drivers who had been watching from distance to the scene and they were also injured with bullet wounds from the firearm of the Police officer. This development however got the attention of drivers on sight as they approach the scene.
On seeing them, the officer retracted into Diamond Bank after the drivers gave a chase. It was learnt that the bank management failed to respond to the calls by the drivers to bring out the officer. This led to destruction of the property and eventual burning of the banks.
Another report had it that the shooting in the head of the driver was as a result of the disagreement over paying of N1,000 which was demanded by the Police officer. It was reported that the officer ran into Diamond bank, the mob invaded the premises and he later ran into neighbouring Sterling bank where he was alleged mobbed to death.
Peace was however restored after several Police officers, including Naval officers were deployed to handle the situation.
As at the time of filing this report, no official statement have been released to state if the actual officer died due to the mob action.
