By The former Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Olusegun Adeniyi, has been convicted on Monday by a court martial in Abuja, for violating military social media ethics.
Adeniyi, as ordered by the tribunal, is to be demoted by at least three years. His aide, Private Tokunbo Obanla, who was prosecuted alongside the general, was also found guilty and sentenced to 28 days in jail with hard labour, according to The Punch.
In a viral video, the general was seen complaining about a shortage of military weaponry to combat Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East. He also lamented that the troops were being outgunned by the insurgents, saying an attack on soldiers by Boko Haram fighters was a failure of intelligence.
Consequently, Adeniyi was withdrawn from the war front and also suspended by the Nigerian Army. Charges of military social media violations were then filed against him.
