LCC Increases Lekki And Ikoyi Link Bridge Toll Gate Fares By 100%
The Lekki Concession Company has announced the new toll fee which will take effect from November 8th, 2017. The new tolls will affect both Admiralty Circle Plaza and Ikoyi Link Bridge. The new toll represents a 100% increase from the old fare.
The Admiralty Circle Plaza toll gate located on Ozumba Mbadiwe on Lekki-Epe Express road will now be charging Commercial buses N150 as against the old N80 while saloon cars will be paying N200 against the old N100.
It will be recalled that since the construction of the Lekki-Epe Expressway was handed over to the LCC for the rehabilitation of the 49.4km stretch road, the Lagos State Government in a Private Public Partnership approved that the road be constructed and toll be collected for a period of 30 years. The cost of the road then was estimated to be N50billion.
Having commenced toll collection in December 2011, the alternative route has been made in-accessable for commuters as they have to go through the toll gate on daily basis.
It was not spelt out in the PPP if the concession company will have the legal right to increase the toll fare during the 30 years duration, but, as at the time of writing this report, the Lagos State Government is yet to react to this new development.
