By The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has denied reports that a boat mishap occured at the Five Cowries Terminal in the Ikoyi area of the state, on Tuesday morning.
LASWA was reacting to a now-viral video on social which some reports claimed was captured from the scene of the boat accident.
In a statement signed by its Public Affairs Office, the agency cleared the air over the reported incident, saying “the purported boat mishap video was actually a routine safety simulation exercise being carried out by the LASWA Emergency Rescue Team as part of their Training Exercise”.
According to LASWA, the training demonstration is part of its safety preparedness against any possible incident on the State Inland Waterways.
The agency maintained that no boat mishap occurred anywhere on the state Inland Waterways in recent time, urging members of the public to disregard the video making rounds “as it was done unprofessionally by an unknown source without proper Investigation and verification.”
