LASUSTECH VC denies campaigning for Tinubu

The acting Vice-Chancellor of the newly created Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Dr. Oluremi Nurudeen Olaleye has denied endorsing the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

A Facebook account with the name Oluremi Nurudeen Olaleye, in a post on Saturday, had openly campaigned for the candidacy of the APC flagbearer, citing many reasons for the decision.

The post had said the ex-Lagos governor is a sellable candidate and the political permutations for the 2023 elections appear to be in his favour.

But in a statement on Sunday, the LASUSTECH VC distanced himself from the purported declaration of support for Tinubu, adding that the Facebook account is fake.

The statement read, “Dear all,

“Kindly disregard the Facebook post where I was quoted as campaigning for a particular candidate.

“As much as I have the constitutional right to support a candidate of my choice, I won’t descend so low to do that in violation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Electoral Act. INEC has not declared the campaign period open.

“The Facebook account was forged by mischievous people to tarnish my image. The matter will be reported to appropriate quarters. Thanks.”
