The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) on Thursday, September 18, 2025, held a send-off ceremony for 59 retired members of staff who concluded their service between 2022 and 2025. The event took place at the university podium.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Abiodun Denloye, described the ceremony as an act of gratitude to those who had contributed to the institution’s growth. He urged the retirees to remain active through mentorship and community service.
The Vice-Chancellor, in his message, said the sacrifices of staff over the years were instrumental to the stability of both LASUSTECH and its legacy institution, LASPOTECH. He added that celebrating retirees reinforced the university’s values of service, integrity, and loyalty.
Mrs. Morenike Makinde, who represented the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), assured the retirees of government’s commitment to their welfare and encouraged them to take advantage of opportunities for post-service fulfilment.
Certificates of meritorious service were presented to the retirees in recognition of their contributions.
Registrar, Mr. David Ogungbe, in his closing remarks, commended the honourees for their loyalty and service, noting that they had laid a strong foundation for the university’s future.
Responding on behalf of the retirees, Mr. Olasunkanmi Longe, retired Chief Lecturer and former member of the Governing Council, expressed appreciation to the university management for organising what he described as the first retirement ceremony in the history of the institution.
The 59 retirees honoured at the event comprised 36 academic staff and 23 non-academic staff.
