Miss Kayode Kehinde, a MSc Political Science student of the Lagos State University has taken her message on Gender Equality to Iceland. Kehinde who is also the second United Nations Gender Studies Institute Laureate to University of Iceland was recently recognized by the President of the Nordic Island nation, His Excellency, Mr.Guðni Jóhannesson and the first lady, Eliza Reid, for her efforts at promoting women participation in politics in her home country, Nigeria.
She recounted her meeting with His Excellency, Mr.Guðni Jóhannesson and his first lady, Eliza Reid thus:
“My meeting with the President of Iceland and his first lady prompted my recourse to a major area of gender disparity in Nigeria, political participation, and representation. For emphasis, women’s representation in the Nigerian governmental structures since 1960, accounts for less than 7%. In sub-Sahara Africa, Nigeria ranks amongst the least in women’s equal representation.”
Details of her conversation with the President and First Lady are available on her personal blog: https://officialkehinde.wordpress.com/2020/05/12/
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun, SAN, NPOM, on behalf of the University Community celebrates and congratulates Ms Kehinde, the Department of Political Science and Faculty of Social Sciences on this laudable feat, noting that “she has chosen to propagate a bold and defining message, which has unsurprisingly resonated in far away Iceland. We are proud of her achievements and wish her well.”
