A staff member of the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Mr. Akin Omo Akin, has been confirmed dead following the recent violent clash between residents of Oto and Ijanikin communities in Lagos State.
The incident, which erupted earlier this week, reportedly led to casualties and destruction of property, heightening tension in the host communities of the university.
Mr. Omo Akin, described by colleagues as dedicated and hardworking, was said to have been caught in the unrest.
Details surrounding the circumstances of his death shows that he died as a result of loss of blood from the injury sustained, sources confirmed that the late staff member was not involved in the fracas but became a victim of the violence that engulfed the area.
The clash between Oto and Ijanikin has drawn concern from residents and stakeholders, particularly as both communities host the university’s campuses.
Security agencies were said to have intervened to restore calm, while community leaders have been urged to embrace dialogue to prevent further escalation.
Members of staff and students of LASUED have expressed shock and grief over the loss, describing Mr. Omo Akin as a committed worker whose contributions to the institution will be sorely missed.
