The management of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) has dismissed allegations linking its students to the ongoing fracas between Oto and Ijanikin communities, describing the claims as unfounded and misleading.
In a press release obtained by BlackBox Nigeria, the university said its attention had been drawn to rumours circulating online and offline suggesting that students of LASUED were involved in the clash between some youths from the host communities.
“For the avoidance of doubt, LASUED and its law-abiding students are role models and ambassadors of peace who will not, at any time, engage in actions capable of bringing the institution or the larger society into disrepute or chaos,” the statement read.
The management urged members of the public to disregard any reports alleging that its students participated in the violence, maintaining that the university remains committed to peace and discipline.
While distancing the institution from the crisis, LASUED expressed sadness over the tragic loss suffered during the unrest.
The management confirmed that the clash claimed the life of a staff member who was peacefully carrying out his normal duties at the time of the incident.
Describing the development as deeply painful to the university community, the institution reiterated its dedication to fostering an environment built on harmony, mutual respect and professionalism.
“LASUED remains a peaceful and law-abiding institution, committed to nurturing future leaders in an environment that promotes harmony, discipline, and mutual respect,” the statement added.
