The staff unions at Lagos State University (LASU) have suspended their indefinite strike after appeals from the university’s Vice-Chancellor and the Lagos State Government.

According to BadagryToday, the notification came through a senior lecturer who requested anonymity as he wasn’t allowed to comment on the matter officially.

BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the strike, which began on July 31, 2025, was initiated by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising ASUU-LASU, SSANU-LASU, NASU-LASU, and NAAT-LASU, over unresolved welfare issues.

In a statement, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of resuming academic activities and assured staff of the government’s commitment to addressing their concerns.

The Lagos State Government, through the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, also appealed to the unions to suspend the strike to allow for constructive dialogue.

Following these appeals, the unions agreed to suspend the strike, and academic activities are set to resume on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Students and staff are advised to stay informed through official university channels for updates on the revised academic calendar and examination schedules.
