Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, approved a reduction in tuition fees for fresh students of the Lagos State University (LASU).
This was according to an information posted on the official Twitter account of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Tokunbo Wahab.
However, Premium Times reported that Wahab has disclosed that the reduction of the fees for the newly admitted students is by N10,000, saying this development affects only students in the stream 1 programme of the University.
“This means students will now pay about N57,000 as against N67, 000, which was the old fee,” he said.
The government official further disclosed that the decision followed several meetings with the student body and Governing Council of the state-owned institution.
According to him, the review of the school fees “shows Mr Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to quality and affordable education for all students, regardless of their background or race,” adding that the bursary for Lagos indigenes “has been increased from N25,000 to N50,000” to cover the new fees.
Recall BlackBox Nigeria reported, on December 9, that the management of the University had hiked the tuition fees for fresh students from N25,000 to N67,048, which is about 168% increment.
