On 1st December, 2025, Lagos State University (LASU) held its 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony with a motivational charge delivered by one of its own, Dr. Samson Oyefolu, a distinguished alumnus and current lecturer in the Department of Political Science.
The matriculation held at Buba Marwa Auditorium recorded a total number of 14,893 students for the academic session in various discipline.
Addressing the gathering of newly admitted students, Dr. Oyefolu shared words of encouragement, urging the fresh undergraduates to stay focused, resilient, and purpose-driven throughout their academic journey.
“Do not choose a mentor who will kill your shine. Such a person is not a mentor, but a tormentor”.
His presence as the motivational speaker was symbolic, a former student who rose through the ranks to become an academic at the same institution.
Dr. Oyefolu, known for his academic brilliance and mentorship, emphasized the importance of discipline, critical thinking, and contributing meaningfully to society.
His speech was met with resounding applause, as students and staff alike praised his uplifting message and inspiring personal story.
One of the major highlights of the matriculation was the special award given to Dr Samson Olusegun Oyefolu for his contribution to the both the University and the students at large.
The ceremony marks the official entry of thousands of students into the university community, with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello reiterating the university’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and student success.
