LASU Isn’t Recognising Founding Fathers – Former Lagos Commissioner For Education Reveal
The former Commissioner for Education in Lagos State, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun has called out the Management of the Lagos State University, Ojo for not recognising it’s founding fathers.
Asiwaju Basorun, who was the Pioneer Chairman, Governing Council of the State varsity made this known in a recent interview with the Chief Editor of The Impact Magazine, Mr Adekunle Adelabu as he marked his 80th birthday.
He disclosed that the past and present management of LASU have failed to reach out to the Council which birthed the institution as he said they have not gone through the archives in order to take note of those to notify when organising special events.
He said, “I became Commissioner for Education and by that appointment, I became the Chairman, Governing Council of the Lagos State University (LASU). The institution was in the making then.
“In actual fact, I started the work that shaped the establishment of LASU. Thank God, it is now one of the best Universities in Nigeria”.
Asiwaju Basorun, who is an APC Chieftain stated that he had called the attention of the school management to its failure to recognize those that actually nurtured the institution from the beginning but all to no avail.
He also challenged the management to check the records to see those that actually conceived the idea of establishing the institution and brought it into being for proper recognition.
“I only have to mention this again to those in-charge of the school. They have not really gone into the archive to see how we started the school which is why they have not been recognizing our contributions.
“They don’t extend ordinary invitation to us for their convocations even after we had mentioned it to them. They should correct that because it’s important”.
