Victory Ashaka, a graduate of English Literature from Lagos State University (LASU), has been appointed as a Board Member of the European Union Youth Sounding Board in Nigeria.
The board, established by the Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, serves as a platform to incorporate young voices into EU-Nigeria relations. Over the next two years, Ashaka will collaborate with 24 other advisors to provide insights on critical areas such as the green and digital economy, human development, gender and social inclusion, governance, and peace and security.
Announcing his new role, Ashaka said, “This platform is dedicated to creating a meaningful bridge between Nigerian youth and the EU Delegation. Together, we’ll ensure youth perspectives are not only heard but recognized as essential expertise in shaping impactful and inclusive solutions for the future.”
Born in Namibia to Nigerian parents, Ashaka moved to Nigeria at the age of two. His passion for oratory and storytelling was evident from an early age, evolving into a career as a spoken word poet, Lagos State youth ambassador, and climate leader. Ashaka uses his artistic talents to advocate for social change, particularly in addressing the catastrophic effects of climate change and inspiring others to take action.
Reflecting on his role, Ashaka pledged to uphold the EU’s mandate with integrity, stating, “I will advise intelligently, influence graciously, and monitor the activities of implementing partners accurately. This is a collective effort to ensure that youth voices drive sustainable and inclusive development.”
