Dr. Aminat Ige, a senior academic lecturer at department of Mathematics at Lagos State University (LASU) has publicly decried the rising cost of internet data on the MTN network and what she described as a “terrible” customer service experience.

In a Facebook post shared widely, the celebrated mathematician, who claimed to be a loyal MTN user for over 22 years, said she is now overwhelmed by the daily cost of maintaining internet access, alleging that 6.8GB of data disappeared within a single day without any heavy usage.

“I’ve been trying to cope. However, I need you to show workings. 6.8 gig in one day without downloading any video?” she wrote, adding that she uses Facebook only for two hours daily on the device in question.

Efforts to resolve the issue through MTN’s customer service allegedly made matters worse.

According to her, the call agent dismissed her concerns, cited unrelated apps like iTunes as data drainers, then abruptly ended the call only to send a message claiming the ticket had been resolved.

To her shock, when she redialed, the person who picked the call reportedly snored throughout the engagement.

The LASU lecturer called on MTN to urgently address customer complaints, adding, “It’s no longer yellow everywhere I go.”

MTN is yet to issue an official response to the claims.
