The Nigerian Senate, on Tuesday, confirmed the appointment of Professor Ayo Omotayo as the Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, Plateau State.
A spokesperson to Senate President Ahmad Lawan, Ezrel Tabiowo made this known in a statement, noting that Omotayo’s confirmation was sequel to the consideration of a report by the Joint Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters; and Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs.
Making a case for the university don as the right man for the job, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, at the plenary, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for identifying a young and brilliant individual to head the prestigious institute.
Boroffice stated that Omotayo will be an asset to the institution, leading it to greater heights and supporting national development.
Omotayo was until his appointment, a Professor of Environmental Sustainability in the Department of Geography and Planning at the Lagos State University.
He was the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences between 2012 and 2017. He was also the Director of the Centre for Planning of the Lagos State University, until his appointment as the Director-General of the National Institute National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies by President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2021, and confirmation by the Senate in January 2022.
